Mijn-Energie Festival

I have been asked to build an installation for the Nederlands Mijnmuseum in Heerlen. This is the proposal for the installation I’ve sent in.
Im working hard at the two bodies of the figurines right now. They are a mine worker and his wife. I’m trying to emphasize the difference of the realities in which they have their existence. The wife above ground, is going to be a sculpture of light, with a big skirt and below it spoons with which she tries to feed her family. And the mine-worker is going to be a sculpture of shade, darkness and a little light of hope. Here in the south of the Netherlands, where I grew up, the history of the mining industry is still very present, if you have an eye for it.
The exhibit of the installation will be at 9 december at the mine-energy festival, so come and have a look at the Dutch Mine-museum in Heerlen, everybody’s welcome!
